Good Boy is a 2025 American supernatural horror film directed by Ben Leonberg. It stars Leonberg's own Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever dog, Indy, in the leading role as himself, with Shane Jensen, Arielle Friedman, and Larry Fessenden in supporting roles. Primarily set in a rural woodland house, Good Boy follows Indy and his owner, Todd (Jensen), a young man with a chronic lung disease, as they move into Todd's late grandfather's rural home, where a malevolent supernatural presence gradually engulfs Todd, while his devoted dog attempts to rescue him.
OK this was an interesting one and a review that doesn't really need a very long review. I could tell you everything that happens in this movie but honestly it is something you have to see. It follows Indy who really is a good boy. He is devoted, loving, caring pup who would do anything for his owner. As his owner declines he gets a bit meaner and consumed by his disease. Meanwhile Indy see's the melevolent spirit that is following his master and messing with him. This spirit is what seems to be as possessing his owner. He can't stop it even though he tries to hard. He is with his owner every step of the way. His owner starts being taken over by the spirit and starts getting upset with Indy and then one time he grabs Indy and holds him as he does the spirit tricks him and scares him and he ends up biting his owner. His owner takes him outside to make him sleep out there as punishment. Indy isnt doing good because he sees his owner int he window and hears him coughing and grunting and he ends up being taunted in his house by the spirit and then he finally breaks free and runs up stairs and tries to find his owner.
His owner finds him and grabs him holding him and loving on him and then we find out as he is drug down to the basement by the spirit that his owner is dead. He is trying to protect Indy even as a spirit by telling him to run and get away. Indy just can't and he stays. You see a dog that looks like it could have been indy but it was the previous owners dog's bones by the basement door leading to the outside. Indy ends up laying down in the basment waiting for his pwner that has passed away. The next day the sister of the owner comes to the house to check and finds her brother dead and searches finding Indy. He leaves reluctantly with her and thats the end. You do see alot of things here and there of the previous owner who lived their which was his granfather who apparently was killed by the same spirit and had a dog just like Indy as well. Indy sees all this stuuf all the visions and everything else.
Here is my takes on it.
The movie made me think so many different things but the one thing i kept thinking about it how this movie is a big symbolism on how cancers, diseases and sickness in general takes over and destroys you from the inside out as if you were being possesed and taken by an evil spirit. That and when it happens how and what the animals and loved ones go through when it happens. I loved this movie. It was a thinker and yes i cried several times in sadness for the dog and the owner. Heck i even feel bad for the sister who clearly loves her brother very much. This dog is a better actor then most of the human actors i have ever seen. The emotions that dog was able to protray was so amaizng i felt them. the movie was 8/10 it was suspenseful, a few jumpscares and a great cinematically shot film. I enjoyed this movie and i think it is worth watching!!
